Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are a popular skincare treatment that involves applying a chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate and improve its appearance. The solution causes the top layers of the skin to peel off, revealing newer, fresher skin underneath. Chemical peels are commonly used to address a variety of skin concerns, from acne to hyperpigmentation, and can be performed on the face, neck, or hands.

Types of Chemical Peels:

  1. Light Peels:
    • Purpose: These are the mildest type of chemical peel, usually performed with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) like glycolic or salicylic acid.
    • Effect: They remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and are often used for mild acne, dry skin, and to improve skin texture and tone.
    • Downtime: Minimal; there may be slight redness or peeling for a few days.

  2. Deep Peels:
    • Purpose: Deep chemical peels, such as those using phenol, penetrate deeper into the skin and are used for more severe skin concerns, like deep wrinkles, severe sun damage, and scarring.
    • Effect: They can significantly improve skin appearance and texture but require more extensive recovery.
    • Downtime: Significant; healing may take several weeks, with intense redness, peeling, and scabbing during the recovery period.
